We are excited to announce the launch of the ‘Researching Agency in Education and Learning (RAEL) Network’, and its corresponding website www.raeln.org. This network is co-founded by the following researchers:

  • Daniela Jadue, Post-doctoral researcher, Center for Advanced Research in Education (CIAE), University of Chile
  • Kristiina Kumpulainen, PhD, Professor of Education, Scientific director of the Playful Learning Center (PLC) Department of Teacher Education, University of Helsinki.
  • John Potter, PhD, Professor Department of Culture, Communication and Media, Institute of Education, University College London.
  • Dieuwerke (Dee) Rutgers, PhD, Teacher – Researcher at the Universidad de las Américas (UDLA), Quito, Ecuador.
  • Mohini Verma, PhD candidate in Psychology and Education, Faculty of Education, university of Cambridge (Supervisor Dr. David Whitebread).
  • Rob Yates, MPhil, Coordinator, Literacy and Humanities for District of Columbia Public Schools, United States of America.
  • Jaakko Hilppö, PhD candidate in Education, Department of Teacher Education, University of Helsinki (supervisor Professor Kristiina Kumpulainen and Professor Lasse Lipponen)

The origins of this network lie in the Agency Conference held in Cambridge in 2012 (http://www.educ.cam.ac.uk/events/conferences/agency2012/) which ignited many debates and discussions about the concept of agency, its relevance and potential for education, and the various ways in which it can be researched. With the creation of this network, we aim to create a shared space for academics, students, practitioners, researchers, and young learners to interact and exchange perspectives and research on agency in learning and educational contexts, in which we set out to bridge perspectives and cultures, respect and value diversity and promote inclusion.

Therefore we invite you to visit our website for further details about the network, our ambitions for the network, and ways in which you could get involved. If you have any questions or comments, please do get in touch on contact@raeln.org. We would love to hear from you and we are greatly looking forward to re-igniting the agency spark!
